Our Story

In 1988 the crack epidemic was destroying families and communities across the nation, including central Alabama.  A small, determined group of Montgomery, Alabama residents, led by General Charles Cleveland (retired Air Force) formed a unique organization to respond to fight the spread of addiction and the related social ills caused by substance abuse.  Inspired by the anti-drug catchphrase, “Just say ‘No,’ they formed the Substance Abuse Youth Networking Organization.  SAYNO, inc. focuses on grass-roots organizing, coalition-building, and youth leadership development as tools for preventing substance abuse and strengthening communities in the River Region of central Alabama.

SAYNO shows youth and their communities how to SAY “YES” to the full range of freedoms, health, opportunities, and success that a drug-free lifestyle offers.

To power to say “Yes” begins with SAYNO.
